L E O N C O U N T Y A C A D E M I C L E A G U E EST. 2026 Leon County ACADEMIC · LEAGUE

Where Tallahassee thinks.

The first interscholastic academic competition league for Leon County's high schools. Inaugural season begins September 17, 2026.

About the League

The Leon County Academic League runs Quick Recall matches every Thursday from September 17 to December 17, 2026, at Maclay School. Two teams of four players each. 100 questions across two short halves. The pace is closer to a live Jeopardy taping than to a sporting event.

Every member school holds a board seat. Annual fees are modest, and founding donors will underwrite waivers for any school that needs one. Coaches receive an onboarding kit, study guides, and an optional summer clinic. Match attendance is flexible; a vetted school adult can chaperone in a coach's place.

In January 2027, top finishers play an NAQT-sanctioned tournament that qualifies three teams for the High School National Championship Tournament in Atlanta. Programs like Detroit Catholic Central in Michigan and Thomas Jefferson in Virginia have built serious academic teams over decades. Tallahassee can do this too.

Joining the inaugural season

Joining commits your school to a 13-week Thursday season at Maclay, two teams of four (JV and Varsity), and a $500 annual fee that founding donors will waive for any school that needs one. Schools own the league. Every member holds a board seat. The league does the curriculum lift; coaches show up to coach.
